Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit
Inspired by Jewish values, Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit provides compassionate, personalized services—including support for older adults, mental health and wellness programs, and basic needs assistance—to thousands in the community each year.
Since 1928, Jewish and Family Service (JFS) has served Detroit's Jewish community. Today they are proud to carry that important work forward by serving all who come through their doors. Through the efforts of our highly skilled and dedicated staff, the hundreds of volunteers who support us in countless ways, and the leadership of our Board of Directors, JFS can provide compassionate, personalized services that help thousands in their community each year.
Zero Suicide has been a part of the JFS work for a long time. In 2022, JFS refocused on the initiative, hired a new suicide prevention coordinator, and began consulting with the Zero Suicide Institute. Since this team's inception in 2022, they have focused on driving the principles of the Zero Suicide Framework within the organization, thanks to the consultation services provided by the institute. JFS has trained over 95% of internal staff as well as several referring agencies within the community. They have supported multiple community events, including a JFS Spotlight dedicated to suicide prevention during the summer of 2024. JFS is looking forward to putting systems in place to help maintain the work of the Zero Suicide Initiative through additional policy and procedure focus during year year.
