“Our school completed the Environmental Assessment three times in three years (pre-, post- and follow-up) to get an accurate picture of our ongoing sustainability, re-assess current priorities, discuss the impact of funding changes and support personnel, and assure that we were evolving with the current needs of our stakeholders.

In reflection, the assessment proved to be an effective tool when administered repeatedly to assess priorities and strategies in an ever-changing landscape of need, accessibility, funding and resources. Our district team utilized the assessment data to revise our strategic plan, enhancing the sustainability of the multi-tiered suicide prevention framework we are developing.”

MTSP Environmental Assessment

The Multi-Tiered Suicide Prevention (MTSP) for Schools Environmental Assessment guides school leaders in evaluating their current suicide prevention efforts across all levels of support.

Assessment

The Environmental Assessment is a companion tool for EDC's evidence-based Multi-Tiered Suicide Prevention (MTSP) for Schools framework.

Using the assessment, district leaders can:

  • Generate district-wide consensus on suicide prevention needs
  • Identify existing school activities that can strengthen your suicide prevention efforts
  • Obtain guidance on improving your district’s suicide risk response protocols
  • Learn best practices in suicide prevention with the MTSP Environmental Assessment Companion Guide

Companion Guide

A companion guide is available to help get the most out of the assessment, offering practical tips for interpreting results and taking action to strengthen school-wide suicide prevention efforts.

Pilot Data

We've also included a slide deck that walks through the environmental assessment data from our first pilot cohort of MTSP school districts that participated from 2022-2024.

MTSP for Schools

Unlike one-time trainings, MTSP builds local ownership and long-term capacity. Along with the free MTSP Environmental Assessment, districts can access services from EDC’s Education & Wellbeing experts to support effective implementation, continuous improvement, and lasting impact.

Service Offerings

EDC’s professional development and coaching services align with Title II and Title IV funding priorities, helping districts strengthen educator effectiveness while creating safer, healthier schools.

  • Virtual Professional Development and Coaching: Four virtual sessions combining suicide prevention best practices with hands-on team planning.
  • Intensive Consultation: Monthly virtual meetings, ongoing review of district needs, and customized guidance and resources for implementation.

Districts may combine services across 1 or more school years for maximum impact.
