Breakout Session
A Multi-Tiered Approach to SEL
4:05-4:55pm EST
Strengthening students’ social and emotional wellbeing has become a top priority for educators, due to COVID-19 and related consequences exacerbating the fragile mental health of students. Districts are now tasked with putting in place systems that will strengthen students’ social and emotional wellbeing, and address the needs of those facing mental health challenges.
A multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) approach to SEL and mental health can help districts address this challenge.
Through this interactive session, participants will be introduced to the MTSS approach in the context of SEL and mental health, learn about the important elements of effective district-wide MTSS models, and discuss the approach.
- Tier 1: Districts can combine effective SEL classroom instruction and school-wide policies that promote SEL growth for all students
- Tier 2: Small group interventions for students struggling with social and emotional development
- Tier 3: Interventions for students requiring intensive and individualized mental health services
